What is the snow level on [insert hike]?
And yes! We are in that slightly awkward period when the sun starts to show up, but winter snow is still present. A few days ago, I asked my dear Yannick if he had any information about the snow level at Lac du Montagnon. He then shared the perfect website to help me get an idea.
Facebook groups and the same question on repeat
“Do you know if there is still snow at [insert hike]?” That is the question I see most often at the moment in Pyrenees mountain groups and across social networks. So, without further delay, I have an answer for all of you. Thank you Yannick, really.

So, how does it work? You can enter your destination in the search bar.

And then?
You move the cursor across the different blue areas: the darker it is, the more snow there is. The cursor shows the estimated snow depth. In my example image, 219 cm.

Be careful and check snow conditions
There you go, now you know whether the hike you are dreaming about is still snowy or not. Never forget that the mountains are an environment where nature always has the final word. Be careful on your outings, learn to observe what is happening around you and study snow science. I am actually reading a book on the subject right now, recommended by Yannick again. What a man.
